Effective Use of Apps in Task-Supported English Teaching
Shen Xuyi, Nicole
In this experience-sharing video, the pre-service teacher introduces the task supported language teaching approach that she adopts when teaching students who lack fundamental English language skills. She uses various interactive and communicative activities on apps, for instance, YouTube videos, Edpuzzle, Powtoon and Flip, to engage the students and to raise their motivation when teaching different language items. The pre-service teacher also mentions how she makes use of online tools to enhance students’ self-learning skills and help them develop a habit of listening and speaking in English even outside classroom. Lastly, she shares her advice to fellow pre-service teachers. From her experience, she finds it important for teachers to constantly reflect on their daily lesson by keeping a teaching journal. She recommends the open-door policy, which is to do informal class observation and engage in professional dialogues.
