Transit-oriented Development I – Characteristics of Transit-oriented Development (TOD)

The video introduces the basic concepts and characteristics of transit-oriented development (TOD). By using the development of Tseung Kwan O as a case study, the teacher explained different kinds of urban form and transport designs in Tseung Kwan O for elaborating the TOD characteristics. A total of five characteristics of the TOD development was introduced, they are (1) High-quality mass transit system, (2) Development within the walking distance of the transit station, (3) High land use mix, (4) Compact development, and (5) Pedestrian- and bicycle-friendly design. Combining both the structure of TKO and the main characteristics of TOD, students can have an in-depth understanding of the TOD development model.
